China seems to have a serious row with  McDonald

In January 2019, China accused McDonald of supporting independence for Taiwan via

its latest advertisement for a breakfast sandwich that features a two-second glimpse of

a woman’s identity card that lists her nationality as “Taiwan”. It considers this

advertisement as a violation of Chinese law as Beijing claims Taiwan as part of its

territory and the advertisement boosts Taiwan’s urge for the self-ruled island. In this

context, some Chinese nationalist are of opinion that McDonald whose mainland

franchises are owned by a group that includes the Chinese Cabinet’s investment arm

should be expelled from China.
